Costa Rica - General information
Costa Rica is located in Central
America, Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the
South, surrounded by two oceans: Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean
Sea. It’s location makes a great environment for an
amazing ecological biodiversity and unique destination.
The total territory is 51.100 km2, and approximately 25%
of this Costa Rican territory has been protected,
creating protected areas: wildlife refuges, biological reserves
and national parks.
Costa Rica is divided in 7 provinces: San José, Cartago,
Alajuela, Heredia, Puntarenas, Guancaste and Limón,
this last one where the properties are located. |

Most of the visitors that arrive to Costa Rica, enter the country
by air. There are two main International Airports:
Juan Santamarian International Airport, located in Alajuela, about
30 minutes away from San Jose downtown. The other one is located
in Liberia City, in Guanacaste, about 4 to 5 hours from San Jose.
Also is possible to arrive to Costa Rica if coming from Nicaragua
or Panama, or if coming in a cruise.
The main international airlines offer daily flights to
Costa Rica, from different cities in the USA, Canada,
Europe, South America, Central America, Asia and the rest of the
world.
The official currency in Costa Rica is the colon.
US dollar is widely accepted, however it is recommended to always
exchange some money, especially if visiting remote and rural areas.
US dollar and Euros can be exchanged at the Banks, and sometimes
at the front desk of the hotels. Currency converter
Spanish is the official language, but English is spoken by many
people, especially in tourist areas.
